The Atlantis Remixed (ARX) team is committed to bringing together the power of videogames, academics, and participation in socially-meaningful activities. Participation in this game is designed to enhance the lives of children while helping them grow into knowledgeable, responsible, and empathetic adults. The ARX project will foster an awareness of seven critical dimensions in order to actualize them in the lives of children:
Through participation in Atlantis Remixed, youth will come to value their own communities and to recognize not only that their communities value them, but that even young people can make important contributions in their communities and in the world. As a project mission, our goals are to (a) rewrite the narrative of videogames as something pro-social and about things that have significance in the real world, (b) rewrite the narrative of school content such that students appreciate its real-world value, (c) rewrite the narrative of schools as personally engaging, and (d) rewrite the narrative about what it means to be a person in the world, providing students with pro-social identities and trajectories of participation.
Merely playing a game does not ensure that one is engaged in transformational play. Students who play transformationally become protagonists who use the knowledge, skills, and concepts of the educational content to first make sense of a situation and then make choices that actually transform the play space and the player.
ARX is different. ARX has combined the playful aspects of games with deep educational content developed by learning scientists. Furthermore, it effectively connects children with the outside world, creating awareness for social and environmental issues. Children perform real world tasks, help their classmates, and get involved. And all along they have fun. http://atlantisremixed.org/
